Subjects

We are proud to offer a broad and exciting curriculum that nurtures the potential of every child, from Nursery through to Primary 7.

At The Olive School – Namugongo, our subjects go beyond the core areas of Literacy, Numeracy, and Science. Learners explore a variety of disciplines such as Creative Arts, Religious Education, Music, Kiswahili, Agriculture, ICT, French, and Physical & Health Education. Each subject is taught in a way that connects learning to real-life experiences, local culture, and a strong values-based foundation.

Our dedicated teaching staff use interactive tools, storytelling, hands-on projects, group discussions, and technology to bring lessons to life inspiring curiosity and critical thinking in every classroom. From planting gardens in Science, to coding games in ICT, to singing in chapel assemblies, learning at Olive is rich, practical, and joyful.

We are continually enhancing our curriculum to reflect the needs of 21st-century learners in Uganda, grounded in faith and excellence. Parents are encouraged to engage with our academic journey through school events, exhibitions, and regular communication via our school app.

English Language
At The Olive School – Namugongo, English Language is at the core of every learner’s journey. From Nursery through to Primary 7, we guide our pupils to become confident communicators, thoughtful readers, and expressive writers.

Our English lessons combine phonics, reading fluency, grammar, vocabulary building, handwriting, and composition. Pupils enjoy exploring poems, Bible stories, folktales, local literature, and global texts — while building comprehension and critical thinking along the way.

In early years, learners are immersed in songs, picture books, and storytelling to nurture speaking and listening skills. As they grow, they participate in shared reading, creative writing tasks, spelling games, and drama activities that bring language to life.

Our teachers use a structured yet dynamic approach that supports every learner’s pace, including those who need extra help or extension. Through class readers, guided reading groups, and vocabulary-rich environments, we cultivate a love for language and storytelling.

Whether delivering a speech during Chapel, crafting a short story, or engaging in peer editing, English at Olive is about more than literacy — it’s about finding each child’s voice and preparing them to use it with clarity, kindness, and confidence.
