Supporting Academic Progress

At The Olive School – Namugongo, we believe that every child is unique and full of potential. Through a nurturing and child-centred approach, we provide both support and challenge to help every pupil thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

From Nursery to Primary 7, our teachers use engaging, age-appropriate methods to build confidence and curiosity in learners. We focus on foundational skills in literacy and numeracy, while also encouraging creative expression, critical thinking, and problem-solving.

Continuous assessment, individual learning plans, and parent-teacher partnerships ensure that each pupil receives the right guidance to reach their goals. Whether a child needs extra support or extended enrichment, we are committed to helping them discover their strengths and grow with purpose.

Supportive Class Teachers

At The Olive School – Namugongo, every pupil is guided by caring class teachers who provide consistent support in both academics and personal development. Each child is known, valued, and nurtured by teachers who closely monitor their progress and well-being throughout the term.

Our small class sizes ensure that teachers can build strong relationships with learners and their families. In collaboration with parents and school leadership, class teachers help children set learning goals, develop positive character, and grow in confidence both inside and outside the classroom.

In addition to academic guidance, teachers offer pastoral care listening to pupils’ needs, encouraging kindness, and helping them manage friendships and emotions. Through this daily support, we help every child flourish socially, emotionally, and academically.

Tracking Performance

At The Olive School – Namugongo, we closely track every child's learning journey through continuous assessments and goal-setting between teachers and pupils. This helps us understand individual progress and celebrate every step of growth.

Class teachers regularly monitor each pupil’s academic development, identifying areas that need extra attention and taking action early when support is needed. We believe that timely feedback and encouragement build both skills and confidence.

We keep parents fully involved with regular communication, termly report cards, and scheduled parent-teacher meetings. This partnership ensures that every child receives the academic and emotional support they need to thrive.

Academic Enrichment

We broaden our pupils’ learning experience through exciting enrichment clubs and classroom extensions that make learning fun, practical, and meaningful beyond the syllabus.

  • Children explore their talents in clubs such as Science Explorers, Reading Circle, Math Games, and the Culture Club.
  • We organize storytelling sessions, mini-debates, creative writing workshops, and guest visits from local professionals to inspire curiosity and imagination.
  • Bright learners receive extra support and challenge through guided projects, extended reading, and leadership roles within their class groups.

Academic Mentoring

We believe that pupils who show special interest or talent in academics should be guided to reach their full potential. Our mentoring programme pairs children with older peers and teachers who can support, challenge, and guide them in their learning journey.

Through small group discussions, enrichment reading, and one-on-one coaching, pupils deepen their understanding of subjects they’re passionate about. Our mentors help them develop good study habits, research skills, and the confidence to take on leadership roles in their class and school projects.

Our Academic Coordinator oversees these programmes and ensures learners who excel are supported in competitions, holiday academic camps, and with preparation for scholarships or future academic pathways.
