At The Olive School – Namugongo, we believe that caring for a child’s mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual wellbeing is essential to their success in life. Our pastoral care and life skills programme work hand-in-hand to help learners grow with confidence, resilience, and joy.
In addition to our school nurse and House Parents, we have a trained Wellbeing Coordinator and a Christian counsellor who guide pupils through age-appropriate emotional and social challenges. Weekly mentorship sessions and spiritual devotions reinforce principles of self-worth, healthy habits, and God's unconditional love.
We teach all children not just those facing difficulties that wellbeing is a life skill. Through our spiral curriculum, we revisit key topics like hygiene, emotional self-regulation, good sleep habits, healthy friendships, and safe use of technology, ensuring pupils build deep and lasting understanding as they grow.
Beyond lessons, Houses and class groups conduct regular “self-check-ins” through reflection activities, peer talks, and quiet time. Our boarding pupils also enjoy caring for pets like rabbits and chickens, which foster a sense of responsibility and comfort in a homely environment.
Pupils explore self-care through hobbies such as music, drawing, swimming, gardening, Bible journaling, and sports. We offer clubs like mindfulness, Lego building, creative crafts, and faith-based encouragement groups, giving every child a safe space to express themselves and find joy beyond the classroom.
