Every week at The Olive School – Namugongo, our Music Department runs hundreds of individual music lessons and group rehearsals. Pupils are supported in preparing for solo performances and can register for ABRSM practical exams each term. We also offer optional RockSchool and LCM Music Theatre assessments once a year.
Our dedicated specialist music teachers provide one-on-one lessons in the following areas:
- Strings: Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass, Harp
- Woodwind: Flute, Piccolo, Clarinet, Saxophone, Recorder
- Brass: Trumpet, Horn, Trombone, Tuba
- Percussion: Full drum kit and traditional percussion
- Guitar: Acoustic, Classical, Electric, Bass
- Keyboard: Piano and Organ
- Voice: Singing and vocal training
Lessons usually last 35 minutes, with longer sessions available for pupils preparing for advanced practical grades or public performances.
Discounted tuition is available for pupils in Middle Primary and Upper Primary who show outstanding musical progress and meet exam milestones:
- 50% discount – for ABRSM Grade 6 (Merit or Distinction) plus a pass in Grade 5 Music Theory
- 75% discount – for ABRSM Grade 7 (Merit or Distinction) plus a pass in Grade 5 Music Theory
- 100% discount – for ABRSM Grade 8 (Merit or Distinction) plus a pass in Grade 5 Music Theory
To maintain this support, pupils are expected to:
- Practise regularly and show consistent effort
- Demonstrate musical growth and discipline
- Actively contribute to school music groups, choirs, or small ensembles
