At The Olive School – Namugongo, music is a joyful and essential part of everyday learning. We are committed to nurturing every child's musical talent through engaging lessons, group rehearsals, and public performances.

Our growing Music Department is led by passionate, experienced teachers and instrumental tutors. Lessons are held in dedicated practice rooms, with regular access to percussion, keyboard, and orchestral instruments. Our School Chapel Hall serves as a welcoming venue for concerts and musical gatherings.

Whether a pupil is just beginning or has already discovered a love for music, we provide pathways for all. Our students participate in school choirs, instrumental ensembles, and class band sessions. Many also pursue international music qualifications through ABRSM, RockSchool, or LCM Music Theatre exams.

We host over 50 musical performances each year – from lunchtime recitals and class concerts to end-of-term musical showcases. Pupils are encouraged to enter the School’s annual Singing and Instrumental Competitions, and selected pupils represent us in national and regional festivals.

Our Music Department occasionally organizes international exchange collaborations and hopes to expand to regional tours across East Africa in the coming years.

“The skills pupils develop through the study of Music – learning an instrument, practising on their own and with their peers, performing to an audience, and gaining an appreciation of culture – are part of the all-round education that The Olive School offers.”
John Mukasa Director of Music
